A PS5 that will not turn on at all (no white light, no beep, no fan) has a power delivery fault somewhere between the socket and the mainboard. That sounds serious, but many of these are repairable once the failed component is found.
Shops that only swap parts often give up on no-power consoles. Board-level diagnosis is what finds the actual fault.
Common causes
- Power surge or lightning strike through the mains or HDMI (always use a surge protector).
- Liquid spill into the console or USB ports.
- Failed power management IC or fuse on the mainboard.
- Damaged USB-C power port on the rear (PS5 Digital and some models).
- Short circuit from a foreign object or damaged internal cable.
What to try before booking repair
Check the power cable is firmly seated at both ends. Try a different wall socket (not an extension lead).
If you heard a pop or smell burning, unplug it and do not try again. That usually means a component has failed and needs professional diagnosis.
If the console was working fine until a power cut or storm, mention that when you get in touch. It helps narrow down the fault quickly.
What repair costs
No-power faults are £70 to £120 depending on which components need replacing. I trace the power rails under the microscope and quote before any work starts.
If the damage is too extensive to be economical (rare but possible after major liquid damage), I will tell you straight after diagnosis.
