Who we are

The Console Dr is run by Mark Wilcock from 25 Park Rd, Warrington, Cheshire WA2 9AZ. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website and our repair service. You can contact us about privacy on 07713 166376 or by email at enquiries@theconsoledr.co.uk.

What we collect

When you use our quote wizard or get in touch we collect the details you choose to give us, such as:

• your name, phone number, email address and area
• your console model, the fault and any photos you send
• how you heard about us

We also record how you found the website, such as a search engine or online listing, so we know which marketing works. If you message us through a messaging app, we see your number and messages.

Data on your console

We only power on and test your console as far as needed to diagnose and repair it. We do not browse, copy or keep your games, saves, accounts or other personal content. If you are worried about your data, sign out of your accounts before dropping the console off or posting it to us.

How we use your information

• to reply to your enquiry, diagnose the fault and give you a price
• to carry out the repair, return your console and honour our warranty
• to keep records for accounts and legal obligations
• to understand how people use the website so we can improve it

We do not sell your details and we do not send marketing messages unless you have asked us to.

Legal basis (UK GDPR)

We use enquiry details because you have asked us to take steps before entering into a contract (a diagnosis or quote), and to perform that contract if you go ahead with the repair. We use website statistics and enquiry records under our legitimate interest in running and improving a local business. Where the law requires your consent, we will ask for it.

Cookies and analytics

We use analytics cookies to see how many people visit the site and which pages they use. We also store which advert or link brought you here in your browser for the current visit only, so it can be attached to your enquiry.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work.

Who we share it with

We only share your information with trusted service providers that help us run the website and respond to you, such as website hosting, email, analytics and enquiry record-keeping. They can only use it to provide those services to us.

If you post your console to us or we return it by post, we give your name and address to the courier.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

How long we keep it

If you do not go ahead with a repair, we delete your enquiry details within 24 months. If we repair your console, we keep job records for up to 7 years for warranty, tax and legal purposes.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict its use. Contact us using the details above and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
