If you have never had a console repaired before, the process can feel unclear. Some shops quote over the phone without looking, others keep your machine for weeks with no update. Here is exactly how it works at Console Dr.
Step 1: Get in touch
Use the free quote wizard, WhatsApp, phone or email. Tell me the console model, what happened, and what the fault does now. Photos of damage (especially HDMI ports or charging ports) help me give a faster first answer.
You do not need to know the technical fault name. “No picture but it turns on” or “won’t charge unless I hold the cable” is enough to start.
Step 2: Drop-off, collection or mail-in
- Local drop-off in Warrington for customers who want to hand the console over in person.
- Collection can be arranged if you cannot get to me easily.
- Mail-in repair across the UK. Message first so I can advise on packaging and insured postage.
Step 3: Formal diagnosis
Every repair starts with proper diagnosis. I inspect the console, test the fault, and often look at the board under the microscope before quoting.
You get a clear price before any repair work begins. If the fault is different from what you expected, I explain what I found and what it will cost to fix. You decide whether to go ahead.
Step 4: Repair and testing
Most repairs are completed within 48 hours once you approve the quote. Same-day repair adds £20 when I have capacity.
After repair, the console is tested properly: picture output for HDMI faults, charge cycle for Switch ports, thermal load for overheating jobs. It goes back to you working, not just “assembled”.
Your data and games
I repair your console, I do not replace it. That means your account, downloaded games, saves and settings stay exactly where they are. You do not need to back up unless you want to (always a good idea for any electronic repair).
What makes this different from a high street shop
Most repair shops swap parts or send boards away. I work at component level on the mainboard: micro-soldering HDMI ports, replacing power ICs, fixing lifted pads. That is why I can fix faults other shops turn away, usually for less than a replacement console.
You also deal with me directly, not a counter staff member who has never opened a console.
